Make Quartier Général your headquarter – Montreal BYOW restaurant

Quartier Général (QG) is french for Headquarter, a perfect name for this awesome BYOW in the Plateau that could well become your local hangout. I don’t know any other place that offers such high quality food and let’s you bring your own bottle. The value for money here is one of the bests in Montreal in my opinion.

The black board menu usually carries 5-6 dishes but it changes all the time with what’s in season so you never get bored. What’s consistent here is the quality of the french food staples prepared with local ingredients and a Quebec twist. You’ll should always find a couple of meat dishes as well as at least one fish option on the board.

Each main course price on the board already includes a soup or salad, and for only $14 extra you also get an appetizer and a desert. Although the soups are delicious and could probably suffice, getting the Table d’Hôte is well worth it in my opinion, so that’s what we did.

Our starters included a Beet and feta salad, a the trout gravlax and a typical beef tartare. All 3 were very fresh, well prepared and tasty. There was nothing crazy original about these starters, but the cooking and seasoning of everything was perfect. We were off to a good start…

We then opted for a fish with spaetzle and a beef dish. The fish was good but not as tasty as my usual choices here but the meat was delicious and extremely well cooked, as always.

Now, we didn’t really save room for deserts but we took the Table d’Hôte so we HAD to go for it. Thank god cause I enjoyed their amazing Cheese cake and my partner the creative lemon curd. It was simply wow.

The deco is minimalist here, tables dressed simply, cosy fireplace at the back, and a semi-open kitchen so you get to see a little bit of the action. The only downsize is that the restaurant can get quite loud so not that intimate / romantic. Staff is friendly, efficient and discrete, always.

Bottom Line:

If you are looking for well-prepared and delicious food to enjoy with a good bottle of wine that won’t cost you $40 or more, then definitely try QG. I’ve been coming here on and off for the last 7 years and was never disappointed. Don’t forget to book in advance, it usually gets quite busy.
